Randy and his team have joined forces time after time to create public art works that are appealing and fun, while simultaneously making the statement required. The most ambitious of these projects consisted of three sculptures which are now housed in the new Age of Mammals exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Randy was commissioned to create a simulated "skin" of wire mesh to fit over three fossilized, extinct sea mammals so that viewers can have an idea of what the mammal probably looked like. The three types of mammals, all from about 15 million years ago, were a sea cow, a baby sperm whale, and a relative of the present-day sea lion. All three fossils and their sculptures may be seen suspended from the ceiling of this exhibit.
